  • The Cat Venture · S003 · Upstairs

Warm storybook attic with slanted wooden beams and a round window glowing with morning light. On the left a cardboard box crackles with bright blue magical energy along its seams. In the center three cats sit side by side on the plank floor: a fluffy orange tabby, a grey-and-white longhair with brass aviator goggles on its forehead, and a black tuxedo cat in a brown fedora with a red band and a thick red knitted scarf. On the right stands an ornate brass shrink-ray machine with a dish emitter on an articulated arm, analog dials, colored lights, switches, and a metal lever. Spiderwebs cling to the rafters. The top of a wooden staircase with a rounded banister post appears in the bottom-left corner.

Upstairs the attic hummed. A cardboard box sparked with blue lightning at its seams, and beside it a brass dish machine waited with dials and a lever. The three cats sat in a row, wondering which mystery to touch first.
